Sunshade Forest

A vast supernatural forest known for its permanent orange and gold foliage. It has been slowly expanding for generations, swallowing old roads and settlements as it grows. At its center stands the Heart Tree, believed to be the source of much of the forest’s strange activity.

Monarch City

Monarch City was once built along the southeastern mainland coast, but the growing Sunshade Forest eventually forced its people to relocate offshore. Over generations, the city was rebuilt across the nearby islands, connected by bridges, canals, and docks. Today, the sea acts as its greatest protection from the forest’s expansion.

Abelton

Abelton is a quiet northern farming town surrounded by fields, livestock, and smaller rural communities. It supplies much of the region’s food, especially to Monarch City. In recent years, however, the northern edge of Sunshade has begun creeping uncomfortably close to its farmland.

Lackadasy Marsh

A large wetland of bogs, shallow lakes, reeds, and flooded woodland. It is difficult to travel through without a guide, but its constantly soaked ground seems to slow the spread of Sunshade. Small fishing communities survive around its safer edges.

Lupus Peaks

The Lupus Peaks form the rugged northeastern mountains of the region. Mining settlements and old mountain roads dot the lower slopes, while the higher peaks remain wild and isolated. Many of the mainland’s rivers originate here.

Lunar Lakes

Hidden among the Lupus Peaks, the Lunar Lakes are a group of unusually clear mountain lakes surrounding rocky islands. Local legends claim they were formed by something that fell from the sky, and strange lights are sometimes reported beneath the water at night.

Cerimonial Cliffs

The Cerimonial Cliffs are towering gray sea cliffs along the southwest coast. Ancient ruins and ceremonial sites can still be found on some of the upper plateaus, though no one is certain who built them. Sunshade now grows right up against the cliffs, creating a sharp divide between orange forest and bare stone.
